“I just thank God for all of the blessings.” James Brown

“Children make your life important.” Erma Bombeck

Each day is a blessing. My little boy is about a week or so away from being 10 months old. Time literally goes by fast! My husband and I were talking about how amazing it is that in a matter of a month Eli can change so much! So today I am counting what I love about the stage that he is at. Of course this is not all that I love about it since it’s a top 10 list, but it is definitely some favorites!

  1. Laughter. I love Eli’s laugh, especially when he chuckles. And I love that he makes me laugh!
  2. Teeth. He is getting two top teeth. While the process of cutting teeth isn’t fun, I love that smile when they are in.
  3. Snot. Yup I said it. I love the face he makes when he is “blow” snot bubbles… even though usually nothing comes out.
  4. Food. I love that he eats table food, he eats what we eat. He is very independent!
  5. Sleep. He has always been a good sleeper and still is. I am very thankful!
  6. Talking. Eli says dada 90% of the time but he has said momma! I love hearing him babble.
  7. Pulling Up. This was a big change in our house! One day he decided to pull himself up and since then the exploring of the house has not stopped. I love watching him learn and get stronger as he walks along the coffee table.
  8. Crawling. He is a fast crawler, although it is still the army crawl, he gets where he wants quickly! I still think its cute how he gets around army style.
  9. Hair. My kiddo has crazy hair, I usually say he has Eli hair! His hair has a mind of its own and I love it.
  10. Thumb sucking. My baby boy sucks his thumb. He only does it when he is sleeping, but I love how precious it is when I go check on him and he is sucking his thumb. (Of course I may be asking for advice when he is older on how to stop the thumb sucking, lol! )

“One person with passion is better than forty people merely interested.” E.M. Forster

We all have passions. We may have more than one, but all of them are unique to us. We do not have to share the same passion as the next person. Because we all have different interests it makes our ability to make change in the world all the greater because every one has certain things they truly are passionate about and are willing to share that with others. There are many things I am passionate about… God, my family, being a mom, living a more green and healthy lifestyle, writing as well as other things. Today I wanted to share with you the top 10 things that I have done about my passion for living a green and healthy lifestyle. When you are passionate about something you can’t just sit back and do nothing, it always inspires change in you. Maybe my passion might spark an interest in one of you…

Top 10 Green/Healthy Changes I have made

  1. Cloth Diapers
  2. Making my own cleaning supplies
  3. Avoiding hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup
  4. The seldom times I use plastic I makes sure its BPA free
  5. Line drying my clothes and diapers
  6. Green and biodegradable laundry detergent
  7. All natural bath soaps
  8. All natural wash out bar soap for stains on clothes
  9. More home made foods and desserts
  10. Homemade baby food

There are many reasons why I have made these changes. Most of the reasons I have are because of the chemicals in the commercial products and what they do to our bodies. I understand not everyone shares in my passion for this, but that is all in what makes us unique. All I want to do is share something I am passionate about and hope to inspire some of you. What are you passionate about and how has it inspired you to change?

“I knew it was going to be the most extraordinary thing in my life, but how powerful it is, you can never know until you have a baby.” Celine Dion

My little one is already 6 1/2 months old, I can barely believe it! It is amazing the things that you learn during such a short time. Being a first time mom everything comes with a learning curve. I still remember the first time my husband got peed, that was funny… at least for me! Each new stage with our little ones brings about exciting and new adventures, what a blessing our babies are! Every baby is different, so no one thing works for all babies. But, here is my Top 10 things learned in the past 6 months…

  1. Change the diaper quickly
  2. Not every baby wants a pacifier… some want their thumb (like mine)
  3. Everyone has advice, but mom knows the best for her baby
  4. Some babies love their car seat and go to sleep every car ride, others don’t like the car seat and do not fall asleep every car ride
  5. Every baby reaches each milestone at different times, don’t rush
  6. Using cloth diapers takes some experimenting until you find a good wash routine
  7. Babies like some foods more than others… my little one actually likes veggies more than fruit!
  8. You don’t have to have fancy equipment to make homemade baby food
  9. Never leave the house without an extra baby outfit in the diaper bag
  10. Cherish every moment because they grow up quickly!

What does it mean to be a mom? Well we are….

  1. pooped on
  2. peed on
  3. spit up on
  4. drooled on
  5. constantly doing laundry
  6. changing diaper after diaper
  7. never guaranteed a full nights sleep
  8. the teacher to our kids before they ever go to school
  9. the ones who can calm down our fussy baby when no one else can
  10. our children’s biggest supporter

Being a mom is hard work, but with each day and with each child comes new blessings, and a heart that grows even more with love and joy! I hope all of you mom’s out there have a fantastic Mother’s Day!

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 (NIV)

As Christians we are not supposed to just go to church and then go home. The church is not truly meant for us. We are to be the church for those who need to hear God’s word. Many of us find our selves in a routine of going to church and coming home and that’s it. How many of us get involved? I know with as busy as our schedules are, it is hard to find time to buy groceries let alone volunteer. But, we are supposed to reach out to those in need. I have made a top 10 list of ways to volunteer either from home, or short time framed opportunities that will work for most moms! It doesn’t matter what we do as long as we get involved and show our kids first hand how fun it is to help! Find what you are passionate about and start there. That way volunteering wont feel like a chore. We must make a difference in our communities, God will bless us for doing what He has asked!

  1. Find an organization you support and see if they need help running their blog
  2. Make phone calls for a non-profit
  3. Help get envelopes ready for mail outs
  4. Be a greeter at your church (you are already there and the kids can join in!)
  5. Take your kids with you to your local food bank and sort food
  6. You and your kids can make cards for local vets and residents of nursing homes (it really brightens their day!)
  7. Volunteer with a hospitality ministry where you cook meals for families who have had a birth or loss in the family (these ministries are also easy to start if your church doesn’t have one, get a bunch of volunteers and you only have to cook a meal once a month or so because you all take turns!)
  8. If you are artistic or creative in any way non profits and smaller ministries would love to use your abilities for websites, flyers and events
  9. Go through your closets and clean them out! There are lots of non profits that will distribute the clothing to those in need
  10. Need a way to start off simple and work into bigger volunteer options? Start by sponsorship. You can sponsor children and families in lots of different organizations to provide things like food, clothing, school supplies, a job and much more!

It doesn’t matter what you do, we just need to get out there and make a difference! If you still don’t know where to start I have listed a few non profits that I really believe in and you just might too! Go and be Jesus to the world!
