Archives For behind

We sing this song every year at my church during the Christmas services. I love this song! It is a great example that the heart behind the gift is what truly matters, not the gift itself. One of the lines in the song mentions that the boy has no gift to bring, so the he plays his drum. The heart behind the gift is what truly matters, I believe that to be so for gifts we give to each other as well as the gift we give God when we worship Him. If our heart isn’t there then it doesn’t really matter what gift we are bringing.

Little Drummer Boy by Jars of Clay

Come, they told me (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
A newborn king to see (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
Our finest gifts we bring (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
To lay before the king (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum) [x3]
So, to honor Him (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
When we come

Little baby (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
I am a poor boy too (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
I have no gifts to bring (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
That’s fit to give a king (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum) [x3]
Shall I play for you (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
On my drum?

Mary nodded (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
The ox and lamb kept time (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
I played my drum for Him (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
I played my best for Him (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum) [x3]
Then, He smiled at me (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)
Me and my drum

I saw this video the other day and wanted to share it with everyone. Since the song Redeemer came out by Sanctus Real I have absolutely loved it, it will be stuck in my head forever after hearing it on the radio. This video is the band telling each of their stories and what the song means to them. I love the line in the song where it says “I don’t have every answer in life, but I’m trusting You one day at a time.” God provides us with what we need to make it each day, He provides the miracles we need and that is amazing!
