Archives For blessings

I am not patient. But lately I am finding that God is teaching me this very difficult lesson. There are so many dreams I have for myself and our family that I truly believe are dreams instilled in me from God. Sometimes those things just don’t happen overnight. In fact, that is usually the case! With the world of instant gratification the idea of waiting is unthinkable! Patience, who has time for that? I’ll just zap my food in the microwave and my “baked lasagna” will be ready in less than 3 minutes! Why on Earth would I actually bake my lasagna in the oven for half an hour? Patience! Ha! Do we even know what the world actually means?

Dictionary.com defines patience as the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like. An ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay.

Go ahead and make an entire meal from the microwave! Why wait an hour?

I’m pretty sure that our microwave zapping, instant streaming, world in our hands by the touch of an iPhone generation doesn’t have much of a chance! And I am right there with the rest of the population. If my iPhone is taking a hair too long to upload a page I’m annoyed, don’t even get me started when there are three commercials on Hulu instead of just one! Speaking of commercials, my child doesn’t even know what they are! We don’t have cable. Instead we bought Netflix and Hulu, made our lives cheaper and no commercials! The first time he experienced the world of commercials he was at his Aunt’s house and the Mickey Mouse Club House was rudely interrupted by a commercial. He energetically let out “I want more! More Mickey!” This continued until the show came back on. Little did we know getting rid of traditional cable would make my child impatient! It wasn’t our intention, I promise!

I’m not sure about your family, but we like to dream big! Chase and I will be driving down the road and one or both of us will start dreaming of having more children, when we can take a big Europe vacation, update our kitchen, get a second car, Chase’s businesses grow even larger and I write full-time. Our list of dreams go on and on. Here is what I am learning, rather slowly, these things might actually be our future but they won’t come easy and they won’t come with the push of a button. Sometimes we have to patiently wait where we are, work hard and enjoy the blessings of our current circumstances because as long as we are following God’s path, the blessings are sure to follow! This is something that I am having to remind myself of more often than not. I see what we are working towards, the steps we are taking and the amazing benefits of our sacrifices to get where we are wanting to go. But I still struggle with the microwave mentality. Can’t it just happen now? I’m trying daily to overcome this awful mindset because I know that when you are so focused on what you want someday, you miss out on the amazing of today! And I don’t want to miss out on the blessings of my here and now!

Thankful: Spiced Latte

“Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.” Psalm 136:26 (NIV)

What a beautiful day it is today! Anyone who even knows me just a little knows that I do not like the hot. Summer is my least favorite time, I love the colder weather! Waking up today to the low temps and cool breeze was absolutely amazing! I am so incredibly ready for fall! I have my fall scentsy going (hazelnut latte to be exact) and am enjoying the glorious day that is foreshadowing the weather to come! So today I have been reminded to be thankful and since it’s the eighth of the month I am going to share eight things I am thankful for…

  1. Cooler weather
  2. Family time
  3. Pumpkin spiced lattes
  4. Caring doctors (refer to this post if you don’t know what I am talking about)
  5. Hand me down clothes
  6. A good board game
  7. Paperback books
  8. My sons contagious laughter

Joy for Everyday

April 20, 2012 — Leave a comment

Everyday it seems like Eli is learning something new. Just yesterday he was imitating me as I pretended to knock on the door he did the same thing. Today he had a toy on the other side of the room and he would walk back and forth from the toy and the couch, he would pretend to pick up some food and then he would come over and pretend to feed me that food. When I responded with a “mmmmm!” He got a big smile on his face and I could see the excitement he had by my reaction. Every time that he does something good he hears me saying “good boy” and just this week he has started saying that as well. Seriously moms where does the time go? I mean before I know it my baby will be off to school! Which by the way I am so not ready for!

I think time seems to go by much faster as we are older, probably because we value it more as we see how much of a gift the lives God has given us truly are. I am just grateful that one of the many gifts that God has given me is my beautiful son who makes me laugh and smile and brings me joy everyday! What gift are you thankful for?

“And thank you for a house full of people I love.  Amen.”  Terri Guillemets

Today is thankful Thursday! After a busy last few days my one thing to share that I am thankful for is family dinners. I love sitting down with my family enjoying a good meal, talking and laughing. Before we had kids we were very bad about sitting at the table, actually we ate in front of the tv more often than we ate at the table. Once we had our son we decided to be more intentional and make dinner a time where we are together at the table with no tv to distract us. We have actually just started a new thing where we turn our phones to silent when we sit down for dinner and they stay on silent until our son goes to bed, distraction free family time. So no matter how busy and crazy the day can be I look forward to our family dinner time. What are you thankful for on this Thursday?

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” Psalm 100:4 (NIV)

Life can get busy. There is no doubt about that. But, no matter how busy it gets we can’t ever forget to be thankful for all the blessings in our lives. God is so faithful to pour His blessings on us each and every day and today I am reminded of that. We might have plans that we think would work perfectly and then they fall through, but never underestimate these moments! I am so thankful for God’s perfect timing. I can so easily be impatient waiting for His timing, but there is no denying that every time it comes it is absolutely and completely perfect! God’s blessings come at the right time reminding us that we are in His hands so we have an abundance of things to be thankful for! I know for myself that I have many things to be thankful for, my family, friends and so much more, but for today on this Thankful Thursday I am especially thankful for God’s perfect timing. What are you thankful for?
