Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I decided to continue with the spirit of the holiday and share some of the things that I am thankful for! There are so many silly and serious things that I am thankful for, these were just a few that came to mind.
I am thankful for…
My relationship with God
My wonderful husband
My amazing son
My fun, silly, loving family
Friends I can count on
A home to call my own
A church I love
I am thankful for (my silly yet also true list)…
Not having to cook the turkey
My morning cup of coffee
Breaking Dawn Part 1 (LOL)
Glasses are officially considered a fashion accessory (I have to wear mine anyway so it’s a bonus that it makes me fashionable!)
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 (NIV)
Last night Chase sat down to write a letter to our child we sponsor. A few years ago we signed up to sponsor a child through Compassion International and I am so glad we made that decision. I love when we get letters from our sponsor child! I love hearing about what is important to him and I love seeing the drawings he sends us every time! This morning Chase and I were talking and I told him how eventually when our kids get older I want to sponsor a child for each of them. I want to teach them early on the joys of giving, caring for others and making a difference. With so many influences in our kids lives what better way to truly teach them that it is better to give than to receive. It will be so fun when we all sit down as a family to write to the children that we sponsor and then when we sit down to read the letters we get back. I also think this is a great way to teach our children that they do not have to be a grown up to help others or to make a difference. Sure they may not be “paying” for the sponsoring, but the prayers they say and the letters/drawings they do is just as important! Right now we have one child we sponsor and I look forward to the day that we get to sponsor more children!
The last couple of days have been a little busy, which is why I haven’t had the chance to make a new post. My husband works for Lifechurch.tv and it was the annual family reunion where all the staff and spouses come together to fellowship and worship God, it was great! So glad I was able to be there. If you have followed some of the latest posts a continuing theme that has started in my family is the calling God has placed on our lives to be debt free. This is an overwhelming and in a way scary thing because we really don’t know exactly how that looks for us. How He is going to make it happen. But, I know that it will. Between last weekend at church and then this week at the family reunion there are two key points that have been placed on my heart. The first is that God is in control no matter what! The second is that we dream to small! God can do far more than we could ever dream! Chase and I dream to be debt free, not only that but we dream to do this in five years. We have no idea how that will happen, but He does because His dreams are far bigger than ours! We sang this song last weekend at church after a long conversation Chase and I had about our finances. I could not get past the first verse before breaking into tears! It truly said what was on my heart. The first video is how the song was written and the second is the full song.
“My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” Psalm 62:7-8 (NIV)
When I went to breakfast this morning with a friend we were talking about concerts. We found out that we both had been at a concert several years ago that was Third Day and Bebo Norman. I hadn’t listened to Bebo Norman in forever so I came home and decided to see what music videos he has. What do you know I found one! This is a great song. It is a great reminder that God is everything we need!
There are many things that get people passionate. We want to make a change but don’t know where to begin. One organization that I really like is Give A Goat. They believe that the solution to poverty is to provide the solution. They give goats and training to people in the Philippines. This solution gives them the ability to provide for their families on a continual basis. Sometimes all it takes is spreading the word about an issue for there to be change. As Christians we are called to serve, we are called to love and to reach out to those in need. This video is written and performed by David Bowden of Give A Goat. One goat can change so much in a person’s life. Let’s help make change… let’s spread the word!
