Archives For go

Every parent knows when I say that the life of a toddler is busy. Once my son started walking he is constantly on the go exploring everything. I love it, but I won’t lie it is also exhausting and every mom will agree. As soon as his eyes open in the morning he is ready to start the fun-filled day, in fact there are many mornings when I go into his room and he has already begun his daily adventures by throwing his socks or his Grover out of the crib. There are even some mornings when I go in there and he starts to play peek-a-boo right away or the other times when I walk in and the first thing I hear is “more” (which for him that means he is ready for breakfast). The life of a toddler is never boring and that also means that the mommy of that toddler also has a life that is never boring. Every day is filled with new adventures and new and wonderful memories!

So with that said, today on my thankful Thursday I am thankful for those cuddle bug moments! Eli is so busy playing and having adventures that when he comes over to me and crawls up in my lap for hugs I will take every minute of that cuddle bug moment and soak it up. I love that time when he is curled up in my lap sucking his thumb and just holding me, it melts my heart and makes me thankful that little boys love their mommies! What are you thankful for this Thursday?

Wow, Christmas is Sunday! This will be my last post before Christmas. What better way to end this week than with the last of the Christmas worship songs?!? Today I found a song done by the OKC campus of LifeChurch.tv last Christmas. It is a great version of the song, I hope you enjoy it! Merry Christmas everyone!

Fun for Mom: Community

“The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.” Proverbs 27:9 (NLT)

“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” Proverbs 27:17 (NLT)

Sometimes it feels like being a stay at home mom we never leave the house, right? Maybe it’s because the summer has been so hot you don’t want to get out in the heat. Could be rain, eventually the winter and the snow/ice it brings. Or if you’re like me and it’s because sometimes your husband needs the car. We have a car and a scooter. My husbands scooter however needs a part replaced before he can drive it again so my options are to take him to work if I want the car or let him have it and stay at the house all day. Now for a while this doesn’t bother me, it can actually be nice. Eli and I have our little routine we settle into on the days we don’t go anywhere. But, after a while we both get restless and feel the need to get out of the house. So with an effort to do just that I have looked for ways for us to have weekly activities. Last week was the first of a weekly craft day that my sister-in-law, friend and I started. I really enjoyed spending time with them and making some fun crafts. Plus it gave the babies time together too. Today I went to a Bible study that I was invited to. It was nice meeting other moms and spending time in a study and prayer. I am not someone who has to be on the go all the time, but like I said eventually I need to get out. These are two weekly things that I am looking forward to being a part of. It’s so good for us to get out of our daily routines and spend time with others, talking and enjoying each others company. The community we develop when we make that time for friends is something that will be with us always. It’s important for moms to have that time enjoying each others company and letting their kids play together. It may not be easy finding something to get involved with, so in any case start something and invite your friends. Enjoy the community of others moms, have fun!

“Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.” Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

Today I wanted to take the time to share some information that many of us are unaware of. I know I was until a few days ago. Cosmetics… this does not mean just make up. Cosmetics are considered anything we put on-soap, hair care, nail polish and the obvious make up… so men and babies use these products too. The cosmetic industry actually has no regulations for what is considered safe and they do not have to recall anything that is harmful. This is crazy! As you know I am pretty passionate about making green changes, so of course this issue really bothers me. I believe that we are all given our passions for a reason and are meant to do something about them. I wanted to share this with you all today to spark some interest in some of you. Change must start somewhere.

If you want to check your products and make sure they are safe you can go to the Skin Deep Database and find all the information there. You can also find more information about the chemicals in our products from Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families and the Compact for Safe Cosmetics.

We all have something that drives our passion and we seek change, you know one of mine. What is yours?

“One person with passion is better than forty people merely interested.” E.M. Forster

We all have passions. We may have more than one, but all of them are unique to us. We do not have to share the same passion as the next person. Because we all have different interests it makes our ability to make change in the world all the greater because every one has certain things they truly are passionate about and are willing to share that with others. There are many things I am passionate about… God, my family, being a mom, living a more green and healthy lifestyle, writing as well as other things. Today I wanted to share with you the top 10 things that I have done about my passion for living a green and healthy lifestyle. When you are passionate about something you can’t just sit back and do nothing, it always inspires change in you. Maybe my passion might spark an interest in one of you…

Top 10 Green/Healthy Changes I have made

  1. Cloth Diapers
  2. Making my own cleaning supplies
  3. Avoiding hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup
  4. The seldom times I use plastic I makes sure its BPA free
  5. Line drying my clothes and diapers
  6. Green and biodegradable laundry detergent
  7. All natural bath soaps
  8. All natural wash out bar soap for stains on clothes
  9. More home made foods and desserts
  10. Homemade baby food

There are many reasons why I have made these changes. Most of the reasons I have are because of the chemicals in the commercial products and what they do to our bodies. I understand not everyone shares in my passion for this, but that is all in what makes us unique. All I want to do is share something I am passionate about and hope to inspire some of you. What are you passionate about and how has it inspired you to change?
