“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven-and the future starts now!” 1 Perter 1:3-4 (MSG)

It has been one busy week here so I have unfortunately not had much writing time as I am sure you can tell from my blog. But, that is life and sometimes we all just get a little busy. With all that said today’s post is going to be a Thankful Thursday. What is my one item for today’s thankful list? With this weekend being Easter it reminds me of so many things I am thankful for and that all of us have to be thankful for, for example the life that I have because of what Jesus did on the cross, the empty grave that he left when he rose and the fact that we serve a living God! Because Easter is this Sunday these things are on my mind, today I am thankful for reminders!

It is super easy in our day to day lives to not think about all that God has done for us. We get busy in the routine of the day and the week and yes we might talk through out the week with God and read His word but we may not take the time we need to really think about all He has done and praise Him for it. But… we get reminders sent our way to regroup our thoughts and Easter does just that. What are you thankful for this Easter?

Wow, Christmas is Sunday! This will be my last post before Christmas. What better way to end this week than with the last of the Christmas worship songs?!? Today I found a song done by the OKC campus of LifeChurch.tv last Christmas. It is a great version of the song, I hope you enjoy it! Merry Christmas everyone!

Go Tell It On The Mountain by LifeChurch.tv

With the past week filled with holiday festivities I haven’t had much time to post anything. Sorry for the silence. I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We enjoyed our holiday, it was filled with family, food and family game nights! We had family in for about a week and it was such a great visit! Once everyone went home Sunday we picked up the house and then… decorated for Christmas! I am sitting in my living room writing this post where I have a warm fire in the fireplace, stockings hung on the mantle and our Christmas tree to top off the scenery. I absolutely love this holiday season! I love winter and the fact that Christmas falls in winter makes it all the more better. While decorating our house I had Christmas music playing and of course I was singing along. I don’t know about you but those songs always brighten my day. I love finding new versions of old songs each season as well. Since I am in such a Christmas mood I decided that this music video from Lifechurch.tv would be a good fit and it has a link to more music too!

“Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie.” Jim Davis

I know a big concern for me as a mom is making sure that my son gets the right nutrition he needs. I have been lucky so far, Eli loves vegetables more than any other food! Seriously! He will eat veggies over fruit any day. I know that is rare and I am so thankful that getting him to eat his veggies is not a difficult task in our house. But, for those who have veggie hating kiddos, don’t give up! I have a lot of friends whose children have learned to love their veggies the more times they get them to try it. There was also a little secret that I learned from a few friends and that is masking the veggies. If they can’t see them then they wont know they are there, right? It’s true! That is one reason why I loved the quote from above, it made me laugh because it is true. Even though Eli loves his veggies we have still made some meals with a certain veggie in it and he ate it as if it wasn’t any different. The same is also true for my husband. He was never really a big vegetable eater growing up, he liked corn and green beans. After becoming vegetarians he didn’t have a choice, he couldn’t just live off of those two vegetables for the rest of his life. He has actually learned to love all kinds of vegetables that he never thought he would have. Most the time now when I make a meal he doesn’t ask what it is until after he has eaten it and decides if he likes it, then he asks what it was. So far, it has worked great!

Two meals I can think of in particular are homemade “meatloaf” and sweet potato pancakes. The meatloaf was a bean, rice and carrot meal that was shaped and tasted like a real meatloaf. Sweet potato pancakes are just that, sweet! Just add one mashed sweet potato and a teaspoon of nutmeg to your pancake batter, it’s as easy as that! Eli loved both meals and so did my husband! When we ate these two different meals they had seconds both times. I know that I don’t have experience yet with an older child refusing to eat something, but it never hurts to share ideas. When I hear of a good idea I love just passing it along to more moms, after all we are supposed to be supporting each other! One day I might have to be asking for more tips for picky eaters but either way, my friends will be there to give me tips that have worked for them!

Fun for Mom: Community

“The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.” Proverbs 27:9 (NLT)

“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” Proverbs 27:17 (NLT)

Sometimes it feels like being a stay at home mom we never leave the house, right? Maybe it’s because the summer has been so hot you don’t want to get out in the heat. Could be rain, eventually the winter and the snow/ice it brings. Or if you’re like me and it’s because sometimes your husband needs the car. We have a car and a scooter. My husbands scooter however needs a part replaced before he can drive it again so my options are to take him to work if I want the car or let him have it and stay at the house all day. Now for a while this doesn’t bother me, it can actually be nice. Eli and I have our little routine we settle into on the days we don’t go anywhere. But, after a while we both get restless and feel the need to get out of the house. So with an effort to do just that I have looked for ways for us to have weekly activities. Last week was the first of a weekly craft day that my sister-in-law, friend and I started. I really enjoyed spending time with them and making some fun crafts. Plus it gave the babies time together too. Today I went to a Bible study that I was invited to. It was nice meeting other moms and spending time in a study and prayer. I am not someone who has to be on the go all the time, but like I said eventually I need to get out. These are two weekly things that I am looking forward to being a part of. It’s so good for us to get out of our daily routines and spend time with others, talking and enjoying each others company. The community we develop when we make that time for friends is something that will be with us always. It’s important for moms to have that time enjoying each others company and letting their kids play together. It may not be easy finding something to get involved with, so in any case start something and invite your friends. Enjoy the community of others moms, have fun!
