Beautiful Worship

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1 (NIV)

“I see Your face in every sunrise. The colors of the morning are inside Your eyes. The world awakens in the light of the day, I look up to the sky and say, You’re beautiful” Phil Wickham, You’re Beautiful

The beauty of God is all around us. We can easily worship Him just by seeing the beauty of what He has created. Continually being aware of God and all that He does is one way I try to make my worship something more than what I do only at church. There are plenty days though when I go about my day involved in my normal routine and sadly I do not take the minute to realize His presence or even the beauty of what He has created. Where I live it has been a long hot and dry summer with few rain showers far between the other. This week has been amazing! It has been in the 80s or lower all week. I absolutely love it! I find myself with the windows open, taking Eli out on the porch to swing and just simply taking in the beauty of this weather that God has blessed us with. I fell that this glimpse of the fall weather that is around the corner (which by the way is my absolute favorite season) has made me more aware of God’s beauty and presence in all He created. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the heat and so I did not enjoy being outside much when it was as hot as it has been. I know that I must remind myself to find the beauty even on those hot summer days, it’s just easier to realize it on these cool days. Even though I may complain and forget when it is so hot out, God gives us these days as a reminder. Fall is not here yet. We will probably have a few more hot days before we officially reach fall. But, I am going to let this week stay fresh in my mind to remind me to find the beauty even on those hot days and worship God, the One that created it all!

For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” Hebrews 10: 14-17 (NIV)

The idea of perfection is intimidating. The fact is that as humans we will never be perfect, not in anything we do. We will always come short. Jesus was the one person who ever lived a perfect life. When we are told to strive to live like Him, it can be hard. We will mess up, we will sin. There is no question of if we do, but more along the lines of when. Here is the beauty of our God and His love… we are made perfect in Jesus! There is no more need for us to worry about perfection and our failure. Instead, there is pure joy in knowing that because we trust in Him for our salvation He will not see our sin but the perfection given to us by Him. Now, because we know this, we can not stop seeing where we fall short and instead see where He comes in and makes us perfect. I have always struggled with being a perfectionist. I know that I am not perfect and never will be, yet somehow I expect myself to be able to do things perfectly. This is crazy, I know, because all that I am doing is focusing on where I mess up. Now, I do want to say that even though He makes us perfect in Him and sees our sins no more that does not mean that we should ever stop striving to live like Him. All that it means is that when we fail it is okay, He will carry us the rest of the way.  So today I am deciding to remember and rejoice in the fact that I am made perfect only through Jesus.
