He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

At church now we are going through a series that is inspired by the book Soul Detox by our pastor Craig Groeschel. The sermon last week was about a restless soul. Now if your like me I wasn’t completely sure what that would mean and I definitely didn’t feel like it would be something that I would need to worry with. But, Sunday was just another one of those days where you are sitting listening to the sermon and you feel like God is speaking directly to you, and rather loudly in fact.

There are so many things that I worry and stress about. I pray and ask God to take control and I believe that I have done what I was supposed to do because I have “given it to Him.” But, then I realized that I might have prayed about it, but then it’s still on my mind through out the day. The point that really spoke to me was when my pastor said that we can’t truly focus because our mind is elsewhere, worrying, stressing or just thinking about that to-do list. Wow did that make everything clear to me. Just because I pray and ask God to take control doesn’t give me the freedom to still sit and stress and worry. I have to be able to pray about things and leave them with God and not try to carry them back with me.

He challenged us to sit for five minutes a day and think about nothing but God. Here’s a hint, if you don’t think you have a restless soul just try the five-minute challenge… you’ll be surprised at how many things you think about other than God… like doing the dishes, cleaning the house, cooking, finances or anything else that is stressing you or just on your plate. I have done this challenge everyday since last week and some days are harder than others, but I have noticed a major difference in my focus, my attitude and just my day. We have to be able to turn off our spinning wheels in our heads and focus it on the things that matter… the dishes will be there later, it’s all okay!

The last couple of days have been a little busy, which is why I haven’t had the chance to make a new post. My husband works for Lifechurch.tv and it was the annual family reunion where all the staff and spouses come together to fellowship and worship God, it was great! So glad I was able to be there. If you have followed some of the latest posts a continuing theme that has started in my family is the calling God has placed on our lives to be debt free. This is an overwhelming and in a way scary thing because we really don’t know exactly how that looks for us. How He is going to make it happen. But, I know that it will. Between last weekend at church and then this week at the family reunion there are two key points that have been placed on my heart. The first is that God is in control no matter what! The second is that we dream to small! God can do far more than we could ever dream! Chase and I dream to be debt free, not only that but we dream to do this in five years. We have no idea how that will happen, but He does because His dreams are far bigger than ours! We sang this song last weekend at church after a long conversation Chase and I had about our finances. I could not get past the first verse before breaking into tears! It truly said what was on my heart. The first video is how the song was written and the second is the full song.

God I look to You by Jenn Johnson

God I look to You, I wont be overwhelmed
Give me vision to see things like You do
God I look to You, Youre where my help comes from
Give me wisdom; You know just what to do

I will love You Lord my strength
I will love You Lord my shield
I will love You Lord my rock forever
All my days I will love You God

Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns forever
All my days Hallelujah

Faith: Road Blocks

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2 (NIV)

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22 (NIV)

This past weekend at church something that my pastor said really stood out. He was talking about when we are trying to do what God has called us to do it often feels like we take two steps forward and three steps back. I know this is true for our family as we are trying to get out of debt. For instance, it was only a few months ago that we had to buy a new air conditioning unit for the house. That was a pretty penny I was not happy about. We felt the calling to be debt free, start making changes and then that happens. Of course that is only one example. I know I am not alone in feeling this way either. We have friends who are experiencing similar situations, God leading them to do something and they continually feel like they are hitting road blocks. It’s a very frustrating situation. But what I have to keep telling myself is that these things are happen because we are listening and being obedient to God, if we were not there would be no reason for objection because we would be doing exactly what Satan would want, not being obedient to God. So no matter the struggles we face, as long as we are on the path that God has called us on we can find comfort. Believe me though, I am right there with everyone else, I  can still find it hard to hold on to that comfort because lets face it, two steps forward and three back is never easy! So with that said my husband and I are still making financial changes and seeking God’s wisdom about how to become debt free and I am going to do my best to find His comfort because I know we are doing what He has called us to do!

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” Proverbs 22:7 (NIV)

“If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.” Dave Ramsey

My husband and I have never been bad with money. We have made a few bad choices… but who hasn’t? We learn from these lessons and move on. Any time Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey has been offered at our church Chase and I always felt like we already knew what it was about, we manage our money and we don’t have a bunch of credit cards so we don’t need to go. Last weekend Chase told me that he feels like we should be more serious about it. We have been working to be debt free but haven’t necessarily done it the Financial Peace way. Now we are. Thankfully we do not have much debt, but we want to be able to get to the point where we have the freedom to do with our finances what God wants… the ability to give generously when He prompts us and the ability to truly be good stewards of what He gives us. I think because we have been working on paying things off on our own made us feel like we didn’t have to take the suggestions of others. But, God changed our heart. We don’t want to go about life acting like we know everything, Financial Peace has worked for so many people making them completely debt free. I know that we will get there! We will be able to look at our finances and truly have the freedom He intends, to give as He intends… instead of being tied down to a monthly payment. We have begun our journey to being debt free!

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:12 (NIV)

“Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.” Psalm 61:1 (NIV)

Today I was thinking about my post from yesterday and all the things that we have learned in the past 6 months and how quickly that time goes. We went with Aunt Paige to her doctor’s appointment, she will be having her baby in two weeks! I thought about all the emotions I felt when I was close to delivery and how it all can be overwhelming since it is an experience that you never really can be prepared for until you have done it once. We were talking on the way to her appointment about this and I told her the truth… pregnancy, labor/delivery and Eli have been the one area in my life that I have been able to truly be at peace with and know that God’s hand and protection is always there. I believe that the reason I have been able to stay this way is the amount of time I have spent in constant prayer for my son from the beginning, I was even praying for him before I ever knew I was pregnant. The prayers we say for our children are the strongest, powerful and most loving thing that we can do for them. If you read my blog the other day about my struggles and realizations with anxiety then you know that I am preaching to myself here. If I have not only seen but have experienced the peace that comes from truly giving your pregnancy and child to God then why has it taken me so long to do this in all areas of my life? Trust me I have asked myself that very same question plenty of times. But, I know that if I can give my pregnancy and child to God which are both very big for moms to do; then I can give all areas to Him and experience the very same freedom. I will never stop praying for my son, as he grows the things I pray for will change with his age. But, he will grow up to know that his mom prays for him daily. We don’t need to worry about our children, we need only to pray!
